Crazy Plastic Love… #Playwright #Performance #Reading

It’s always a little disconcerting when you enter a new field of writing. There are so many questions and then there’s the self-doubt when entering unknown territory, however, I wouldn’t be a very good example of my own motivational quote “Be brave and bold in your chosen field of creativity. And never be afraid to explore new techniques” if I didn’t try.

So here I am exploring a new form of creative storytelling. I’ve written a stage play titled, Crazy Plastic Love.

The beginning of this concept came from watching a documentary on behavioural economics from which the study of irrationality was discussed.  “Others are doing it so it’s okay.” Is that what some of us say to convince ourselves that lying or being dishonest is okay?

Think about corporate dishonesty, political dishonesty, relationship dishonesty or even self-dishonesty. When we know it’s a lie but we lie anyway.  How many of you reading this have lied about something in the last 5 years?  Do you consider yourself honest? A good person?

The play I’ve written investigates the “fudge factor” the in-between of how we self-rationalise our lies to ourselves and to others.  The play asks important questions about our lies and self-deception within relationships.  I explore the idea of finding our truthful self through the exploration of other lives with love being the fragile string holding it all together.

And in the final stages there is the idea of character formation – a test if you will. A long-lasting commitment to the theory of mind formation. Growing and developing the idea of truth in a child.  And the unanswered question… would it really work?

Tomorrow is the big day for auditions to take place.  I’m really looking forward to meeting the actors and hope to find exactly the right talent to play the characters in Crazy Plastic Love.

So until next time… “Be brave and bold in your chosen field of creativity. And never be afraid to explore new techniques
